Fractional Laser Resurfacing Information

Fractional Laser Resurfacing:

Fractional Laser Resurfacing is a new technique that can deliver results similar to those of deep chemical peels without any of the associated side effects. Peels as well as some other cosmetic procedures, while their end results are always extraordinary, require a lengthy period of down time and discomfort associated with healing. Fractional Resurfacing is an easy, pain-free way to achieve the same results in a fraction of the time.

Fractional Laser Resurfacing uses the Fraxel Laser which works by treating only a small fraction of the skin at a time. The laser distributes microscopically spaced laser spots into the skin while simultaneously protecting normal healthy skin between the spots that are treated. The laser acts as a skin damaging agent, it damages the collagen underneath the already damaged skin. By doing this, the deep tissue skin cells around each treated area act as walls that close in the treated skin and rapidly heal it. This treatment is effective because the skin cells that are not treated use their healthy collagen cells in order to quickly heal the damaged skin. This results in healthier, smoother, younger looking skin.

Each session treats about 20% of the skin so patients usually require 4 to 6 treatments in order to treat 100% of the skin. Each treatment lasts for about a half an hour and can take place anywhere from 1 to 2 weeks apart. Fractional Resurfacing can treat areas of the face, neck, chest and hands. It has been known to treat sun spots, sun-damaged skin, age spots, wrinkles, acne scarring and redness caused by rosacea.

Fractional Resurfacing requires no significant down-time. Any discomfort caused by the procedure is minimal and recovery does not require the need for pain medication. Improvement in skin appearance is evident after the first treatment, but optimum results will not be achieved until all of the treatments are completed.
