TriVex Information
The TriVex System:
TriVex is a surgical technique used for the removal of varicose veins. Traditional varicose vein removal surgeries were ‘blind' surgeries. The surgeon could not see the vein, therefore could not guarantee its removal. The TriVex System uses a technique called transilluminated powered phlebectomy. This technique uses a unique illumination feature which lets the surgeon illuminate the vein so that it can be seen through the outer layers of skin. This allows for quick extraction, and confirmation that the entire vein has been removed.
This is a minimal invasive procedure that has significantly reduced surgery time as well as post surgery down time. Similar to liposuction, the TriVex System involves making as few as two incisions per vein cluster. An illuminating device is then inserted into the vein area which allows the surgeon to locate the vein and remove it using a small resection device. Once complete, the small incisions are covered and the patients are free from varicose veins.
Will It Hurt?
The TriVex System procedure is performed on an outpatient basis under a local anesthetic. Throughout the procedure as well as afterwards, patients should feel minimal discomfort. Any discomfort can be helped by medicine prescribed by the surgeon. Patients will experience some swelling and bruising after the surgery, but this will only last for a few weeks.
Risks:
Like any procedure there are certain risks associated with the TriVex System but they are very rare. These risks include:
- reaction to anesthetic
- severe inflammation
- unsuccessful removal of all veins
All of these risks can be treated upon development. It is important that you discuss all risks with your physician before undergoing this vein removal treatment.
Results:
The entire procedure can take anywhere from 1 to 3 hours depending on the extent of the varicose veins. Patients will return home the same day with bandages completely covering their leg(s). After 1 to 2 days, the patient will return and have the bandages removed.
Once the bandages are removed, patients are asked to wear compression stockings for the next 6 weeks. This will allow for optimal blood flow and will reduce the risk of varicose vein recurrence. Many patients will also undergo ultrasound therapy during recovery. This therapy will allow the scar tissue to be broken up, resulting in smoother, healthier skin. A month to 2 months after the surgery patients should finally see their full results.
Costs:
The TriVex System procedure can be somewhat expensive, but it does permanently remove varicose veins. The average prices for this procedure are usually in between $1,000 and $3,000 per leg. This price is dependant on the area in which you live, the doctor that treats you, the clinic you go to and the extent of your vascular deformity.
